India, which was known as “the golden bird” in ancient times now has become more of an injured bird with her wings cut off and she is enslaved in a cage. India is known for it’s rich culture and diversity. With more than 19,500 spoken in India and more than 6 religions practiced in India, it is surely a rich nation across the world. But is that really true? Does a common man of India feel proud for his country? Does the diversification of India really holds on or is it just shallow from inside? Let’s have a look inside our golden bird.

Let me share an incident with you which happened with me recently. I came to my village after the imposition of lockdown. When I entered my house, there was an old lady sitting beside my mom. As you all can guess, we touch our elder’s feet whenever we meet them at our home. So I touched both my mom’s and that lady’s feet. My mom shot an angry look at me. I was thinking what wrong did I do? You guys must be thinking that too right? Well, the only problem was that lady was from so called “lower caste” and we are prohibited to touch their feet or eat from their hands. I felt terrible for her. That was the day I decided to indulge deeper into the roots of this caste system and study about it. Caste system as I got to know, is still prevalent in our society. It is an issue which only comes forward when we start noticing it. It is saddening to say that even in 21st century when the world has become so advanced. This generations old system still prevails in our society. This is the stain which wont easily fade away. We, the youth of India need to eradicate this from our society even if we face resistance from our own family. The day mom told me that lady is from lower caste, I decided to educate my mom about the ill effects of this caste system and why it should be eradicated. We don’t get to decide from whose womb we will take birth. We don’t decide our caste and our religion. We are just born with it so no one should face discrimination. The sooner we eradicate this plague, sooner we will unite and accomplish the mission of “ diverse and united India” . And I hope our India will be tagged as “ the golden bird” again. Jai Bharat.
